Implementing a successfully adopted change process into a continuous Software Delivery Lifecycle (SDLC)

We implemented a custom change solution into a large financial business, to complement a new continuous delivery software release model.

Situation

A large finance firm needed to roll out a continuous delivery software release model quickly to stay competitive. We identified that the benefits of this model would not be fully realised without a change lens as there would be a high degree of impacts to the existing ways of working. This could cause a lot of resistance from the impacted teams resulting in a loss of productivity and the failure of the new delivery model.

Challenge

The need to change the software development cycle to increase speed of delivery, meant that change activities needed to occur within a compressed timeframe.

Solution

People Prism moved quickly to make change easier for all. We designed a t-shirt size change estimation system, with prescribed deliverables - as well as a change “overlay” that embedded seamlessly into the new delivery lifecycle.

Our Approach

People Prism developed relationships with the leaders of the development teams and gained buy-in to this new change approach. We reviewed the new continuous delivery model and found change engagement points that made sense for all stakeholders. This pre-work ensured that we were able to position change as a benefit not an overhead to the software delivery process.

Outcomes

People Prism was able to effectively deliver a continuous change process that was adopted widely as part of a continuous software delivery lifecycle. This had a flow on effect of increasing the likelihood of benefit realisation and ROI for software development initiatives. Engagement and support from the people within the business was also impacted positively, with feedback appreciative of the focus not just on delivery but also the receiving stakeholders.
